Review highlights

Based on 1,880 reviews

The public reviews of Tetsunabe Gyoza highlight its reputation as a popular izakaya specializing in crispy, iron-pot gyoza that are freshly handmade daily. Customers frequently note the flavorful, well-balanced fillings and the unique dining experience of ordering all gyoza upfront. The restaurant’s efficient service and availability of English menus are appreciated by both locals and tourists. While wait times are common due to its popularity, many find the experience worth it. Side dishes such as potato salad and cucumber with miso receive positive mentions, adding variety to the meal. However, some visitors find the dumplings pleasant but not exceptional. Overall, Tetsunabe Gyoza is regarded as a must-visit spot for authentic Hakata-style gyoza with a casual, welcoming atmosphere.

Delicious gyoza izakaya! There's normally a line to get into this place but it runs fairly quickly. You gotta order all your gyoza at the start because you can't order more later on, but with sides you can add on. We ordered four servings of gyoza between two and it was very satisfactory. It comes in a pan, hot and crispy. You make your own sauce, with soysauce vinegar, chilli oil or fried chilli. Potato salad was pretty tasty, had apples and cucumber and bacon in it. Price was decent for the portions and service was okay. Atmosphere was lively and noisy. The interior of the restaurant is quite nice with the pictures and signatures from famous people.

Hakata Gion Tetsunabe is a gyoza(=Dumpling) restaurant located in Gion-cho, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and is considered the originator of Hakata's famous “iron pot gyoza. The restaurant serves really delicious gyoza, which are small dumplings laid out in a hot iron pot and baked to a crisp! The gyoza are handmade daily and filled with cabbage, minced meat, and other ingredients. The bite-sized, crispy skin and fluffy ingredients make for an exquisite meal. We also recommend adding yuzu kosho (Japanese citrus pepper) to the gyoza sauce. You can also add spicy homemade raayu or yuzu kosho, which is made only from yuzu produced in Kyushu, to the sauce to change the flavor. A la carte dishes such as braised chicken wings, spicy cod roe, and potato salad are also available.

After a short wait outisde i was able to get a seat and ordered two servings of dumplings which were tasty. The potato salad and cucumbers with miso paste were also very good. The server brought over an English menu for me right away. I will return!

A rather famous restaurant in the Gion Hakata region is known for its fried dumplings. The restaurant is just around the corner from my hotel. So, I visited at once. Many famous Japanese stars and personalities visited the restaurant and had their photos taken with the owner. But for me, as a Chinese person of origin, the fried dumplings were just okay, nothing special. The service was good. I came and visited, and that's all I can say. I regarded the restaurant's evaluation score on Google Maps to be a fair one.

Delicious. Their Gyoza is slightly different from the typical Japanese Gyoza. Cooked and served on a metal pan. You have to order 8 pieces per person. You cannot addon order of Gyoza later but you can add on other items. Other items like cold tofu was delicious too. Queued for almost an hour on a weekday evening. They have English menu if you ask. They accept Cash only.
